Copias de Llaves – Key Copies
CLAUDIO VOITMANN’s work in this kiosk located in downtown Angol is based on the mural “Presence of Latin America” by Mexican artist JORGE GONZÁLEZ CAMARENA, located in the hall of the University of Concepción and completed in 1965.
This mural has as its central theme the union and brotherhood of the peoples of the Americas. The work addresses the central theme of the fusion of races and Ibero-American culture, as can be seen, for example, in the union between the indigenous woman and the Spanish soldier in armor who meet at one of the corners of the kiosk.
This mural proposes a reading of Latin American history that allows us to know the genesis of our continent, revealing its cultural and racial values that define the countries of the region today.
The artist CLAUDIO VOITMANN has the ability to reproduce important parts of the original mural along with elements that define the job of the kiosk owner, such as keys and a padlock, along with a signal that says “COPIAS DE LLAVES” (Copies of Keys) on the façade facing the street. On that same side, you can see the signature of the group to which the artist belongs, the QUARZO GRUP, and the year 2018.
